My project vehicle is a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe LT ‘soccer mom’ special that I bought in 2005. Since then I have been modifying it extensively, ultimately aiming to make it an Expedition vehicle, starting the majority of the mods in 2008. So far, I have:
– put a 2 inch coil spacer lift on the rear along with Z71 springs, swapped the front keys for F150 keys and cranked them up, American Racing Mojave wheels with Nitto Terra Grappler tires, Kennesaw Mountain Accessories rear bumper with swing away spare tire carrier and jerry can holder, Defender roof rack with 4 KC lights, axe and shovel mounted to the rack.
Recently added a locking hard case to secure all my recovery gear, converted an ARB winch bumper that was made for a Toyota Land Cruiser, modifying it to fit on the Tahoe. bumper holds a MileMarker 9500 pd winch, converted a Safari Snorkel for a Land Cruiser to work on the GM 5.3L engine, modified the center console to hold both a CB radio and HAM radio, converted all the interior dash lights to red, added a National Luna dual battery system, using the “house” battery to provide power for the extra accessories, added an on-board air system with Viar compressor and tank mounted where the spare tire use to be… also fires a Grover air horn that is hidden in the winch bumper, painted the front grille to match a Z71 type paint scheme, removed all badges but the front grille and rear tailgate, painted the frame with POR15 to fight the rust from living in a state where tons of salt get thrown down every winter, replaced the brake lines with a stainless kit by Classic Tube, swapped out the rear 10 bolt axle with a 14 bolt “hybrid axle” out of an Escalade. I am sure there are odds and ends I have forgotten to mention, but as you will see from the pics, she is NOT a mall cruiser! This was built not for show, but for getting off the beaten path. I have driven her to beaches, mountains, deserts, backwoods trails, and have over 2000 miles of off-road travel on it. It has been a lot of fun learning about my truck and I have done 99% of the work listed myself. (I did need help modifying the winch bumper)
