This 1964 Corvette was once a gift for my mom from my dad. As life takes one down roads not anticipated, my parents split and the corvette ended up with my dad. As a young 6 year old, I was so excited every time my dad would take myself and my big brother for a ride. I can remember burn outs and just riding in the coolest car ever…… As life moved on, the car was driven less and less. Over the years, my friends and I remember just watching the car sit and sit and sit in my dad’s garage. I moved out of the house and on my own at the age of 16 years old and dreamt one day maybe the car would be mine. Roughly 7 years ago, my dad gave me the car and sadly to say – it sat in MY garage for a few more years. I finally began the overhaul of my 1964 Corvette 4 years ago. I started out just tinkering and…. I was hooked! One thing led into another. I pulled out the suspension and then used my old home made “A” frame to lift the body off the frame. I then began hand sanding the frame down to the bare metal. Hard work, yes, but enjoyed every minute of it. I then primed and painted the frame, rebuilt the stock suspension, drum brakes, single reservoir master cylinder, stock shocks – you know keeping it all stock. Just to pull it all out again and rebuild to create a more road course worthy corvette. That led into putting on tubular control arms upper and lower, QA1 adjustable coil over shocks, Wilwood four piston disc brake calipers, drilled and slotted rotors, stainless steel fuel and brake lines. Sometimes it just feels that time is standing still…… wanting a dream to come true yesterday! The engine is a small block Chevy 400 CI punched out to a 408 CI with aluminum heads, intake, water pump, and a decent cam topped off with a quick fuel technology 750 double pumper carb. The transmission is a rebuilt Muncie 4 speed transmission that is original to the car. I began sanding on the car… and sanding and sanding and FINALLY after 7 long awaited years, my baby left the garage and is off for a new paint job. A nervous time I will admit! My goal in all of this is to have this project finished in time for my dad to enjoy that 1964 Corvette with me.
