My quick tip that maybe someone else might appreciate as much as I did, is simple, and I'm sure, unoriginal. I pretty much keep a handy "magnet on a stick" whenever I am working under the hood. It’s inevitable that something will drop in the hood and you have to get the long reaching magnet out to retrieve a bolt or socket or who knows what. Well, one of the things that I can't hardly stand is the fine crust metal powder that’s always stuck to the magnet. If you’re grinding metal or welding, or brushing rusty metal, you have it around.

Heat the build up of metal with a hand held torch and the metal will lose its ability to stick to a magnet. Give it a try it pretty cool. Just like the previous post you can use saran wrap to keep a clean magnet after you clean it.

What is the tip for cleaning the debris from the welding magnets. I had that problem yesterday in my garage and kept wondering what the trick of the tip that I have not seen posted at this time

...Compressed air with a good air nozzle removes filings in a hurry. just make sure you use safety glasses and point away from you and anyone else around,including your little buddies (pets)...

I have magnets on extendable arms, and always put a sandwich bag over the magnet, pickup what ever you want to pickup including grinding dust, go to the trash can and pull the bag back over the magnet and the junk comes off the magnet and you can use the bag again providing there are no holes in it
