Next time that old incandescent bulb goes out in your trouble light try replacing it with one of those compact fluorescent types "CFL". I put one in my trouble light over two years ago. I have dropped it 100's of times & the same bulb it still going. You can put in a 100 watt CFL for only a few pennies & it doesn't get hot either, no more burns on your face when you get a little too close.

The only problem with the CFL bulbs is the fact that they contain dangerous mercury vapor, and if they ever break or burst you can contaminate your workspace or, even worse, breathe in the toxins if you're close to the bulb when it breaks.

A better choice is to replace the incandescent with the brightest LED bulb you can find. They're more expensive, but they stay even cooler than the CFL, they're more resistant to breaking than either of the other two types, and if they do break there are no toxic components.

It also doesn't hurt that the LED's are rated to last over ten years even with heavy everyday use.

Truth is, you can get a similar battery powered LED worklight that has built in magnets as well as the "old school" hook for less than $10 at Harbor Freight and other tool stores. If you ditch the old worklight entirely you eliminate the risk of electrocution from the power cord (though you might want to keep using the old light anyway because of the extension cord power sockets - that's why I keep mine around...

Enjoy!

Thats a great idea, especially if you don't have $100.00 to spend on one of those no-breakable trouble lights. Thanks for the tip ;)
