If you're like me and do lots of welding and hate when your lenses get hard to see through, try this; Instead of replacing your welding helmet protective plastics when they get scratched, yellowed, heat and smoke stained, use a plastic headlight restorer compound and buffing pad on them. They'll clean up almost as good as new and it'll save you money and a trip or 2 to the welding supply store for new ones.

Nice idea, but if you do this make sure to thoroughly clean the residue off the lens before welding ... It's possible that the chemicals in the buffing compound could become toxic and be breathed in when the helmet is exposed to the heat of welding. I'm always looking for more stuff to buff out with my headlight restoring compound, hehe! I've used it (with a dremel buffer) on old cloudy flashlight lenses and it's restored them to perfect clarity!

Personally, I don't mind shelling out several bucks every now and then for replacement lenses - I get them pretty inexpensively at Harbor Freight - I think five in a pack costs well under ten bucks and lasts a long time...

Regards,
Steve
